The Ashland Volunteer Fire Company is a component of Hanover Fire-EMS, the county level department responsible for fire and emergency medical services. Ashland’s firehouse has three career firefighters with Hanover Fire-EMS assigned 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. These firefighters are vital partners with AVFC firefighters.
Training: Hanover Fire-EMS provides training for AVFC firefighters, including conducting recruit academies to train new firefighters and regular training so that both career and volunteer firefighters are trained to the highest level in fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services.
Special Resources: Hanover Fire-EMS has several special resources available to assist citizens in emergencies. Firefighters with AVFC can join these teams if qualified. Those include :
- Water Rescue Team: The Water Rescue Team responds to any water-related situation above and under the water’s surface. Our swift water rescue technicians are able to rescue victims trapped by flood waters, boating accidents, or who have gotten lost on the water.
- Technical Rescue Team: This team responds to emergencies such as high angle rope, confined space, structural collapse and trench rescues. This team also assists with large animal, and wide area and remote area rescues.
- Foam Resources: The county is a component of the regional response for flammable liquids, with a trailer and foam-capable tenders/tankers.
